Night Run for Julee

Scottsdale, AZ

This race is a favorite of min because we go to run in the dark and the course was great. There was also a cool breeze which was great. A lot of the mascots were there. Here is are pictures of me with Sparky. Big Red and Hairy were there too. There were hot dogs, pizza, barbeque sandwitches, chips etc . . . That's the biggest reason I liked this race.

Pat's Run

Tempe, AZ
This is my fourth race or so that I have run in Tempe. The race was really organized. It had a kid's center, a reunion center where you meet your family. The expo was good. The best part is running into Sun Devil Stadium and finishing on the 42 yard line.

Marquee Triathlon

Tempe, AZ

Because of the rain, the officials would not let us swim in Tempe Town Lake, so this race became a duathlon. I had never done a duathlon before. I had to run 1.5 miles then bike 12.4 miles, then run 3.1 miles. I was looking forward to swimming in the lake and using my wesuit for the first time, but I did better on the run. I might not have placed so well if it had stayed a swim. I liked this race a lot. I always like the running courses in at Tempe Lake. The bike was a smooth good course. On the bike course they handed out food an other stuff. So you are still on the bike when they hand it to you. Someone handed me a water and I got it!! This is the first Red Rock race I have done and they did a good job. I got a cool shirt, a bag, an awesome Headsweat visor and a finisher medal. I got 2nd place in my age group which included all the way up to age 19.

Vistancia Sprint Triathlon

Peoria, AZ

This was my first triathlon a year ago. Instead of doing the youth race, I decided to do my first adult distance today. I did it in 01:44:01 and got first place in my age category. No one else my age even tried to complete this distance. It was the hardest race I have ever done but I am happy I did it. The hills on the bike course were hard for me and running was hard because I was tired. No more 5k’s the day before a race like this for me.

Run Wild 5K

Phoenix, AZ

We did this 5k last year and it was one of my favorites, so we decided to do it again. My mom came with us this time and pushed my little sister in the stroller. I did good, and was only one second off my record. I beat my dad for the 5th straight 5k in a row.

Southwest Valley YMCA Triathlon

Goodyear, AZ

A Note from Christian’s Coach & Dad:

This past weekend Christian did his first triathlon of 2011. The youth triathlon was scheduled to go first before the adult Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons. Christian was excited to use his new road bike and test his running after a winter of working on both. Triathlons always go in the following order: swim, bike, run. While Christian was in the parking lot getting something out of the car, the race director announced that they would be reversing the order of the youth triathlon to run, bike, swim due to the early morning cold. Christian went to the pool area for the start of the race to find very few people there. Sometimes race start times get delayed so he wasn’t too worried. Then about 100 yards away he saw kids running on the course and realized the race had already begun. The area where the run course passed the pool area was already about 400 yards into the race and we were not looking at the leaders. Realizing what had happened I told Christian to run to his transition area and get his running gear on. Christian had to run about 100 yards to the transition area and change into his running gear. He then had to run another 300 yards to the start line. By the time Christian began the race, there were no longer any other youth competitors in sight. Christian was running by himself with all of the others kids so far ahead that they were no longer visible. Christian had not surrendered however and was running like the wind. Most of the adult competitors had been standing around and had observed Christian’s actions. Triathletes are definitely people who appreciate the never surrender spirit many of them commented positively and with admiration for Christian’s courageous efforts. Christian has achieved many great accomplishments with his racing, but this race is one I will remember. Christian continued to run like the wind. His bike split was by far the fastest of the day. No other kid came close. Christian’s swim was only a few seconds slower than the fastest swim of the day. Despite starting several minutes behind all of the other racers, was awarded a medal for 3rd place. I am not sure anyone will long remember who got 1st or 2nd this past weekend, but they might remember who got 3rd.

Kids Rock

Tempe, AZ

Kids Rock was fun. It was a big race. A lot of kids started out running real fast but then started walking. The medal they gave out was cool. They had a biggest expo I have ever been to the day before at the convention center. They also had another expo at the race site with lots of free stuff. I liked this race. I wanted to do the half marathon with my Dad but you have to be 12 years old.
